New definition of "maintenance" for equipment used in explosive atmosphere.

IEC 60079-17:2013: Explosive atmosphere - Electrical installation and inspection

Maintenance: combination of any actions carried out to retain an item in, or restore it to conditions in which it is able to meet the requirements of the relevant specification and perform its required functions.

IEC 60079-17:2023

Maintenance: combination of routine actions taken to preserve the fully serviceable condition of the installed apparatus.

The updated definition is more aligned with the practical use of this term in any facilities.

This also helps Enduser easily distinguish the maintenance activities from repair and overhaul activities.

The requirement of repair and overhaul activities are written in a separated standard, IEC 60079-19.
